The Banksia Foundation was founded in 1989 by a diverse group of 44 Australians who shared a common goal to do more to support and recognise members of the community for their positive contribution to the environment. Today, Banksia is a strong and expanding brand, based on the integrity of the Banksia Awards and its activities to work towards Australia’s sustainable development.

  • At the Banksia Foundation, they realise that recognition must be a means for growth, expansion, new opportunities, alliances and an incentive for further innovation.

  • Banksia is celebrating 32 years, making them the longest running awards of this kind worldwide.

  • Banksia Foundation partners with people and organisations to elevate and encourage their involvement in sustainability.

  • Over 32 years, the Banksia Sustainability Awards have recognised more than 400 winners and received over 5,000 entries from organisations and individuals, committed to a better world.

  • These initiatives have overcome great challenges, learnt from important lessons and shared their story through the Banksia Foundation and beyond. Their tireless efforts in making a positive difference to our sustainable development has inspired and motivated other individuals, organisations and companies across Australia to lead on the path towards a more sustainable future.

  • The Banksia Judging Panel consists of 55 judges who are all experts in their field dedicating their time to vigorously assess the best Australia has to offer in sustainability.

THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS (SDGS)

The Banksia Foundation has restructured the awards to align with the United Nation’s global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In doing so, Banksia Foundation is seeking to elevate the awards’ profile and spotlight Australia’s contribution to the global push for peaceful, healthier and more prosperous communities and the end to environmental degradation.

  • By embracing the Global Goals, we are hoping to raise awareness of the goals and demonstrate how entrants are contributing to global issues.

  • Becoming a Banksia Award Finalist is a great opportunity to broaden people’s awareness of what is being achieved and increased the understanding of the SDGs internally and externally.

  • Aligning the Banksia Sustainability Awards with the SDGs will provide a gauge of Australia’s progress towards them and will ensure we are contributing to the international push for sustainable development.

THE AWARDS

  • A celebration of sustainability and ingenuity, the awards are regarded as the most prestigious and longest-running in Australia and the world.

  • They recognise Australian individuals, communities, businesses and government for their innovation and excellence in environmental and social stewardship.

  • Unlike other award programs, the Banksia Sustainability Awards are not based on one presentation event. The platform allows for multiple events and communication points that give everyone involved the unique opportunity to really be part of something that enables others to achieve greater things.

  • It is a means of networking and raising profile in this area. But it can be so much more, you can meet future stakeholders, alliance partners, suppliers and customers. It can give you exposure to expertise that can assist your organisation to excel in the future.

  • The 2020 Banksia Sustainability Awards initiative is a rare opportunity to be part of a movement that encourages Australia to move forward.

  • The Banksia Awards Presentation is an exciting and entertaining night for all attendees. This is a great incentive to motivate anyone that is interested in how we can create a better place so we can enjoy working better and living better.
